<Trial example of
geographic information system>
We experienced the restoration of heavy rain last July and reaffirmed the effectiveness of the expressive power of map information.
In preparation for natural disasters, we are trying to create a convenient map close to the area.
At first we try the following geographic information system (GIS) which can be used free of charge by user registration.
- Base map information download service (Base map information viewer)
https://fgd.gsi.go.jp/download/documents.html
- Basic map information site of Geographical Survey Institute
http://www.gsi.go.jp/kiban/index.html
Next, we tried GIS (QGIS), a free and open source geographic information system Quantum.
https://www.qgis.org/ja/site/
【Example of trial】
Step 1 Download the base map information viewer (software) from the base map information download service of GSI

Step 2 Download the geographical information of the area from Geographical Survey Institute's base map information site
Step 3 Execute the base map information viewer to read the geographical information and display the map

Step 4 Display the distance and area of the nearby square in the base map information viewer

Step 5 Convert to a standard format shp file as a layer in the base map information viewer
Step 6 Load the shp file with QGIS and map the area
